Tailor a CV summary and cover letter for every new job posting with n8n and OpenAI, tracked in Google Sheets
I built this to tailor job applications without inventing a thing. Every morning it reads a job board feed, scores each new posting out of 100 against your master CV and drafts a tailored summary and a cover letter. Nothing is sent, because each letter lands as a Gmail draft.

Ask a model to tailor your CV and it may hand you a certification you never sat. I built this to do the boring half properly. It reads your master CV and scores each new posting against what is actually in it. The prompt bans any fact that is not in the CV, so it can shift emphasis but never add a job or a qualification. What it does - Every morning at 07:30 it reads your tracker sheet, your master CV from Google Docs and a job board RSS feed. - Drops postings already in the tracker and rejects titles with seniority words you do not want. - Checks your must-have and exclude keywords, then caps the batch at a number you set. - Sends each remaining posting to an OpenAI model, which returns a fit score out of 100, three matched strengths, one honest gap, a four-line tailored summary and a cover letter under 180 words, all drawn only from your CV. - Treats the advert as evidence and never as instructions, so a posting carrying a line aimed at the reader is marked down rather than obeyed. - For postings at or above your threshold, it saves the tailored summary to Google Drive as a Google Doc and opens a Gmail draft with the letter. It never sends anything. - Writes a tracker row for every posting with the reason in the status column. That row also stops the same posting coming back tomorrow. - If the model, Drive or Gmail fails, the run carries on and the posting still gets a row saying what broke. What you receive - The n8n workflow JSON with 20 nodes, credentials removed, and the setup notes on the canvas. - SETUP-GUIDE.md covering every node, every setting and a first run by hand, written to be read by you or handed to an AI assistant. - README.txt with the import steps and the eight sheet headers ready to paste. - code-nodes/: read-only .js copies of the 1 Code node, so you can review the logic before importing. What you need to run it - n8n, cloud or self-hosted. The file was exported in September 2026, so update n8n if a node imports as unknown. - One Google account with Sheets, Docs, Drive and Gmail. - An OpenAI account with API access and some credit. The file uses gpt-5-mini, and you can pick another chat model if your account does not offer it. - A job board that publishes an RSS feed. LinkedIn and Indeed publish no public feed. Fields you edit: the Search Settings node holds the job feed URL, your master CV Google Doc URL and the address the drafts go to. It also holds the daily cap (5), the fit threshold (70), your keywords and the seniority words to reject. Setup time: importing takes about two minutes. Then you make a sheet with eight headers, put your CV in a Google Doc, attach five credentials and run it once by hand to read the drafts before you switch it on. What it does not do - It never sends an application. Sending stays your decision. - It reads RSS feeds only, unless you swap in an HTTP Request node for a board API. - It does not write to Notion. - OpenAI usage is billed by OpenAI on your own key.
